Radia and Atitech join forces for WindRunner, the world’s largest cargo aircraft
In a milestone for the European aerospace industry, Radia, the international aerospace company developing the world’s largest cargo aircraft, WindRunner, has announced a strategic partnership with Atitech, Europe’s leading independent MRO provider with facilities in Naples, Rome and Olbia. The collaboration, unveiled on October 31, 2025, reinforces Europe’s industrial base in the large-scale air logistics sector.

Under the agreement, Atitech will provide advanced maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services, as well as engineering and final assembly line support for WindRunner. The company will ensure the aircraft’s full operational readiness and reliability throughout the entire program lifecycle — a critical role given the aircraft’s unprecedented scale and complexity.
The WindRunner program represents a leap in aerospace innovation: a cargo aircraft designed to carry loads up to 10 times the volume of a Boeing 777, capable of operating from semi-private airstrips as short as 1,800 meters. This disruptive design will enable delivery of large-scale energy and infrastructure components directly to remote or underdeveloped regions. For Italy, and particularly for Southern Italy, the project also carries major industrial and employment potential, boosting local expertise in advanced aerospace engineering.

The partnership also expands Radia’s growing European network of top-tier aerospace companies, including Leonardo, MA Group, Aciturri and Aeronnova Aerospace. Together, these companies are building a robust ecosystem capable of supporting next-generation aircraft production, operations and logistics.
“Atitech represents the best of European engineering and maintenance expertise,” said Giuseppe Giordo, President and CEO of Radia Italy. “Their experience with complex aircraft aligns perfectly with our mission to ensure WindRunner’s availability for commercial, defense and humanitarian missions worldwide.”
“We are proud to support Radia’s innovative WindRunner program,” commented Gianni Lettieri, President and CEO of Atitech. “This collaboration unites two innovation-driven companies and positions Atitech to contribute to the development of a new class of large-scale aircraft, essential for the global energy transition and sustainable mobility.”
Beyond its technical value, the partnership highlights a broader industrial vision: creating a European hub for aerospace innovation, strengthening cross-border cooperation, and advancing technologies for the future of sustainable logistics. As WindRunner takes shape, Italy once again plays a strategic role in shaping the aerospace industry of tomorrow — where engineering excellence meets a vision for a connected, cleaner, and more resilient planet.
